Thriving Minds (formerly known as DALI, or Dallas Arts Learning Initiative) is a partnership between the City of Dallas, Dallas ISD, local cultural organizations, and managing partner Big Thought, a non-profit art education organization. The partnership seeks to unite Dallas' arts, civic, educational, and cultural resources to support creative education wherever students and their families learn. The Office of Cultural Affairs is the primary City department supporting the Thriving Minds initiative; other departments participating include the Public Library, Parks & Recreation, and Geographic Information Services.
OCA supports Thriving Minds primarily in community and research components:
- Provide funding for the Creative Communities (neighborhood hubs). For FY 08/09 they include Hampton-Illinois, Casa View/Far East Dallas, South Dallas, West Dallas, and Pleasant Grove.
- Participate in the research component through the comprehensive collection of program and audience participation in events funded through OCA's cultural centers and cultural contracts program.
- Identify opportunities to expand the cross-marketing and audience development of existing cultural resources.
