Public art is a major component of a city’s visual image.  It tells
the story of a city’s people, its progressiveness, its refinement,
and it celebrates the diverse history and culture of a city.  Public
art mirrors the soul of our society and in Dallas, the Public Art Program captures the winning spirit of our city.

The City of Dallas established a Public Art Program in 1988 for
the purposes of preserving its existing public art collection
and commissioning new artworks through the “Percent for Art Program.”  The City currently owns and maintains a collection of more than 300 pieces, 70% of which are in spaces accessible to
the public.
