Call for Art – Lucha Libre Exhibition

Deadline for Submissions: Entries must be received by November 23, 2021, 5:00 PM.

Dallas artist and curator, Jose Vargas, is seeking art entries for the Lucha Libre art exhibition. The show will be presented at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center, a facility of the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture, from December 11, 2021, to January 21, 2022.

The central theme of the exhibition is Luchadores (Mexican Wrestlers).  The term Lucha Libre translates to Free Fight, or Fight Freestyle. In Mexico, the term is used for professional wrestling. Most Luchadores/Luchadoras wear colorful masks. Typically, the wrestling match involves the técnicos (good guys) vs. the rudos (bad guys).

The artwork created for this exhibition must relate to Lucha Libre in one form or another. Artwork should depict wrestlers, Mexican wrestlers, Luchadores, or Luchadoras. Artists are encouraged to create unique works of art and ideas, innovative techniques, using great imagination and having fun while doing so. 

EXHIBITION SCHEDULE:

Dates of show:  December 11, 2021 – January 21, 2022

Delivery of artwork: December 3 & December 4, 2021 (12:00 – 4:00 PM)

Reception with the artists: December 11, 2021 (6:00 – 8:00 PM)

Gallery talk with curator and artists: January 21 (6:00 – 7:00 PM)

Art pick up: Saturday, January 22, 2022 (12 – 4 PM)

ART ELIGIBILITY 

Art in all media will be considered. Artists should be prepared to supply equipment for artworks that require a video or audio component. 

Submission of entries constitutes agreement to the conditions set forth in this document and in the Policy for Exhibitions of the Oak Cliff Cultural Center.

SUBMITTING ENTRIES

No entry fee is required. Artists may submit photographs of up to two completed works of art.  Artists should submit entries as digital files along with their entry form to jv88602688@gmail.com.

Selection notification: The selected artists will be notified by email and/or phone call by November 27, 2021. If your artwork is not selected for display, you will not receive a notice. The decision of the exhibition curator is final and undisputable.

Delivery Dates: December 3 and 4, 2021. 12:00 – 4:00 pm 

Art should be ready for installation at the time of delivery. No artwork shall be removed from the exhibition before the closing date. It is understood that the accepted artwork images can be reproduced by the Curator and the Oak Cliff Cultural Center for publicity and educational purposes.

INSURANCE

The City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture will provide insurance on most works of art. In some cases, the City of Dallas may refuse to offer insurance for certain pieces of art. Artists have the option to purchase their own insurance separately. While on exhibition, the artwork will be given all reasonable care.

Shipping/delivery of artwork to and from the Oak Cliff Cultural Center is the responsibility of the artist. The insurance coverage provided by the City will not be in effect while the artwork is being shipped.

SALES

Transactions for the purchase of artwork shall be directly between the purchaser and the artist or his/her official agent.
